Interchange data with your customer - Connect Aconex and Asite
Challenge
The 15km-long Oosterweel Tunnel in Antwerp (Belgium) was a complex project from day one. To handle the approvals process, customer Lantis selected Asite’s Common Data Environment. The four partners involved in the Joint Venture selected Aconex for their document management needs. But the same documents needed to be handled in both sides, resulting in manual reencodings because:
- Two different systems in use, ie. Aconex and Asite
- Metadata didn't match
From their past experiences, the project team immediately wanted to provide a virtuous response by linking the two systems together. Cooperlink’s CONNECT product proved to be the ideal solution.
LANTIS, the prime contractor for the Oosterweel tunnel, has awarded the Joint Venture composed of BESIX, BAM Contractors, DEME and JAN DE NUL for the construction of the Scheldt tunnel. It will have a total length of 1800m and it will be built using the “submerged tunnel” method. This technique, in which gravity and the driving force of water constantly compete with each other, is one of the most ingenious construction methods in the field of concrete and hydraulic engineering.

The cooperation was professional and very pleasant. On the one hand, this concerns technical knowledge and quality assurance. On the other hand, Cooperlink's open and proactive attitude contributed strongly to the successful result.

Solution
Using CONNECT, Cooperlink acted as the translator between the Aconex and Asite CDEs, providing much more than a script to map meta-data.
Instead, CONNECT offered the joint venture a managed service with minimal set-up time, which met both the daily transactional needs and longer term business continuity requirements.
Cooperlink’s CONNECT product seamlessly connects two systems which don’t share a common language or metadata format.
Using their off-the shelf connectors, Cooperlink was able to quickly link the Joint Venture’s Aconex platform with the customer’s Asite Common Data Environment.
Benefits
With CONNECT, the customer and JV partners can work on documents within their internal systems, according to their standard way of working. When a document meets agreed criteria, Cooperlink automatically shares it with the customer’s system. The synchronization and approval process is tracked, and every interaction is logged. This allows documents to go back and forth, from one inbox tray to another, without any manual steps.
Both the customer and the joint venture benefit from improved operations and governance:
- Reduced risk of mistakes, structured and predictable way of sharing documents
- No changes to standard ways of working. Less friction from operational teams.
- Reliable and monitored connection between systems
- All parties keep control over the data
- Compliance with regulatory guidelines
